High Gas prices = Equal bad cycling
So gas prices are through the roof ( I guess 30 cents more was the roof), and it looks like more folks are riding bikes to work.
Today I was downtown and I saw a lady riding her old skewl cruiser on the sidewalk on the wrong side of the road coming up from Drake park, no helmet, no stopping or even looking when she got to the stop light or alley ways coming out onto Franklin and zipping in front of business front doors where people could come out at any time. It was embarrassing to see a person riding like that through town. It's no wonder people get stressed about bad cyclists.
At a minimum:
Ride your bike like your driving a car.
Stay on the Right side of the road, in the bike lane or as much to the right as conditions safely allow.
Stop at stop lights and don't assume people are looking out for you.
Someone is going to get nailed soon riding like that. Makes me nervous seeing that.

Indeed! On my way home today I saw four adult cyclists riding, and none of them had helmets, or were really obeying the rules of the road.
Bend isn't exactly designed for a majority of people to bicycle everywhere, so the rising gas prices certainly are going to make things intersting in the number of new riders and how people driving adapt to that.
I should point out its not just bad cycling. However its even more important for them since they are much more vulnerable and tend to upset people more than autos.
Folks in cars were lined up for the light at Portland in the bike lane on my way home last night, forcing people to ride the sidewalk or around the autos.
Hopefully we can all get along. :)
